Dr. Ludy Green
Second Chance Employment Services;

Dr. Ludy Green is one determined woman. As founder of Second Chance Employment Services, a non profit organization dedicated to helping domestically abused women get back into the workplace, she has seen her organization grow to become one of the most well known in the DC area in a little over six years. Dr. Green started her career working at the World Bank, International Monetary Fund, and Smith Bucklin where she was the associate director of Human Resources. She also worked for congress, and holds a PhD in Industrial Organization Psychology.

Her interest in domestic abuse started around 20 years ago when she saw an ad in a local newspaper requesting volunteers for a local shelter for abused women. As she started volunteering with the shelter on a regular basis, she realized that in spite of all the wonderful services offered by the shelter, it was only a temporary solution: the victims would almost always return back to their abusive spouse upon leaving.

Thus the idea of Second Chance Employment Services was born. Dr. Green firmly believed that the only real solution to the problem is to empower these women, and get them to a point where they could be financially independent. Taking a leap of faith, she quit her job and founded SCES in 2001. SCES helps the victims of domestic abuse in all aspects: image consulting, image management, job interview coaching, and even offers them temporary housing until they are able to find a job.

Today, SCES has helped over 1800 women and has found steady employment for 473 women, many of whom where placed in Fortune 500 companies such as IBM, Booz Allen Hamilton, SunTrust Bank, and Salomon Smith Barney. With branches in Washington DC, Virginia, Maryland, New York City, Los Angeles, West Palm Beach, Miami and soon Boston (where former presidential candidate Senator John Kerry is helping her set up her center), one really wonders how Dr. Green manages to stay on top of it all. “I absolutely love and believe in what I do and I don’t see the competition” she says, when asked about how she managed to grow the organization in such a short period of time in the highly competitive DC charity world.

"I absolutely love and believe in what I do and I don’t see the competition ".
The Bitar Cosmetic Surgery Institute has supported SCES since its inception in 2001 where Dr. George Bitar and staff members were present at the first “Last Kiss of Summer” fundraiser which consisted of a cocktail reception for attended by about forty people. Today, tickets for Dr. Green’s “Last Kiss of Summer ” have become one of the most sought after tickets in town. This year’s gala on September 23 at the Four Seasons Hotel in Georgetown will be an event not to be missed featuring dinning, dancing, a silent auction and a keynote speech by non other than actor Victor Rivers. The silent auction items even include tickets to this year’s Academy Awards and the Emmy’s.
So what’s next for Dr. Green? “I want to expand into as many US cities as possible” she says. With her proven track record, her immense passion, drive, and tenacity, we have no doubt she will achieve her goal.
